Laser Hair Removal Aftercare

Laser Hair Removal Aftercare Instructions

Immediately following treatment, there may be mild redness and swelling at the treatment site similar to that of a sunburn. Swelling is expected to last 2 hours or longer and redness may last up to 2 – 3 days. To help alleviate any discomfort, you may apply ice packs or gel packs (do not apply direct ice) for the first few hours post-treatment. If redness or swelling persists, ice packs may be continued.

Cleansing

There are no restrictions on bathing other than to treat the skin gently, as if you had sunburn, for the first 24 hours. Wash the treated area and pat dry for 3 days after treatment. Do not scrub. You may start gently exfoliating the treated area on the 4th day following your procedure, lest irritation remains.

Things to Avoid

After your treatment, you are required to refrain from the following:

Exercise/Perspiration
For at least 3 days post treatment. Sweat contains bacteria. Any excessive perspiration could pose the risk of infection.

Submersion/Heat
I.e. pools, hot tubs, bath tubs, the ocean, saunas, etc. for at least 5 days post treatment.

Sun Exposure/Tanning Beds
Until the skin has returned to normal. Always wear a topical sun protectant of at least SPF 30.

Exfoliation
Avoid exfoliants, scrubbing, or using abrasive loofahs/sponges on the treated area(s).

Hair Removal
Avoid shaving the area for at least 48 hours after treatment.

Picking or Scratching
This can cause scarring, discoloration, and pose risk for infection.

Cosmetics
I.e. scented lotions, makeup, tanning products, etc.

Using Blood Thinners
Including, but not limited to ibuprofen, alcohol, aspirin, and caffeine for at least 5 days post treatment.

Frequency of Treatment
Please be advised that multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired result.

Post-Procedure Expectations

Anywhere from 5 – 10 days after the treatment, shedding of the surface hair may begin, but this is NOT new hair growth. What you are observing is the shaft below the skin being expelled. It may take 7 – 10 days for all hair shafts to be fully expelled.
