Skin Resurfacing Aftercare

Skin Resurfacing Aftercare Instructions

Mild erythema (redness) is expected in the treatment area and may last a few hours to a few days. Treatment areas almost always become erythematous; this is normal. Immediately following the procedure, patients will experience mild discomfort, much like a sunburn. It is uncommon to feel significant discomfort, however, an ice pack (do not use direct ice) may be applied to help soothe areas with irritation. A cooling lotion or soothing gel may also be used after Erbium Yag treatments.

Cleansing

Clean the treated area daily with a mild cleanser. Apply a thin layer of gentle moisturizer to the area several times a day until evidence of dryness, blistering, or swelling has dissipated. Shower as normal but be advised that the treated area may be sensitive to temperature.

Things to Avoid

After your treatment, you are required to refrain from the following:

Exercise/Perspiration
For at least 3 days post treatment. Sweat contains bacteria. Any excessive perspiration could pose the risk of infection.

I.e. pools, hot tubs, bath tubs, the ocean, saunas, etc. for at least 5 days post treatment.

Sun Exposure/Tanning Beds
Until the skin has returned to normal. Always wear a topical sun protectant of at least SPF 30.

Exfoliation
Avoid exfoliants, scrubbing, or using abrasive loofahs/sponges on the treated area(s).

Hair Removal
Avoid shaving the area for at least 48 hours after treatment.

Picking or Scratching
This can cause scarring, discoloration, and pose risk for infection.

Cosmetics
I.e. scented lotions, makeup, tanning products, etc.

Using Blood Thinners
Including, but not limited to ibuprofen, alcohol, aspirin, and caffeine for at least 5 days post treatment.

Frequency of Treatment
Please be advised that multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired result.
